Sir George Dyson (1883-1964) studied at the Royal College of Music, and in Italy in Germany through the Mendelssohn Scholarship. He served as Director of the Royal College of Music, and founded the National Federation of Music Societies. Outside of music, Dyson was well-known as the author of a training pamphlet on the use of hand grenades, written during his time in the Royal Fusiliers.
